Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards emerged victorious from his first Olympic Games with the U.S. basketball team and has been celebrating since the U.S. defeated France in Paris. To celebrate his success, Adidas hosted a special event for Edwards in Paris and gifted him a customized “gold medal” pair of its signature AE 1 sneakers.

The Adidas-sponsored event ended with Anthony Edwards answering questions on stage and ultimately receiving an all-gold pair of his Adidas AE 1 sneakers. The shoes were a surprise from his sponsors at Adidas and are unlikely to be released to the public, but rather reserved for Edwards himself. Adidas also put together a hype video of Edwards during the event to help push the massive marketing campaign they launched for him and his first signature sneaker.

The Adidas AE 1, which Edwards received in a sparkling gold briefcase, features a shiny gold upper that perfectly matches the Olympic gold around his neck. They also appear to have a clear rubber bottom, which would be a first for the Adidas AE 1. It’s not Anthony Edwards’ style to leave these shoes sitting in his briefcase or trophy room at home, so expect him to break them out at some point during the upcoming NBA season when he’s showing off his gold accolades.
Anthony Edwards finished the 2024 Olympics as the best in steals (1.6 SPG) and the second-best scorer (13.0 PPG), despite only starting one game. His talent was evident throughout the tournament, and since he won gold for the first time, we can expect Edwards to represent the red, white and blue for many years to come.
As for the Adidas AE 1, it remains one of the hottest basketball sneakers on the market and Adidas is pulling out all the stops when it comes to marketing and expanding Edwards’ signature line. While there is no word on an upcoming AE 2, we will continue to enjoy the AE 1 while it’s here.
