Calm weather pattern gives way to blocky weather pattern

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): The high pressure system brings four more dry and pleasant days to West Virginia.

An omega block pattern developing late in the week will then trigger scattered rain with only a very slight chance of thunderstorms. When a low pressure system cuts off the jet stream (as will happen later this week in the Ohio Valley), the weather usually starts dry in the morning and scattered showers develop in the afternoon, but the risk of lightning remains low. Temperatures will range from 21 to nearly 27 degrees this week, with morning temperatures ranging from 10 to just under 15 degrees.

Moderate drought will continue until the end of the week.

Tropical Storm Ernesto will develop in the Atlantic this week, possibly reaching hurricane strength. The upper-level flow pattern will likely direct it away from the East Coast. However, if it approaches closer than Bermuda and reaches Category 3 strength or higher, it will likely significantly weaken the eastern low and limit our rain chances even further due to its subsidence or sinking zone of air over our area. There is currently no upside risk for our region to receive rain or wind from the storm.
