When parents have old-fashioned views about their children and gender roles, the family dynamic can become quite toxic.
A teenager recently caused an uproar at his 18th birthday party by revealing to everyone about his father’s destructive behavior over the past decade.
He is 18 and grew up with three sisters, one older and two younger. His father is in his fifties and unfortunately treats him very differently than his sisters.
“My father has always been a ‘girl dad’ because he idolizes my sisters, treats them like princesses and would do anything in the world for them,” he explained.
“He was always the perfect father to his daughters, (but) he made it clear to me from the time I was about seven years old that as a man I could not expect the same treatment as my sisters.”
His father has very old-fashioned views about his children and gender and has given his three daughters everything they wanted, allowing them to live an extremely privileged and simple life.
But when he was old enough, his father lectured him about how he would not receive any handouts and that he would have to work extra hard for everything he wanted.
This was already true in childhood, when his father gave his sisters free toys, but later also free cars and tuition fees.
In the meantime, he had to work hard, do all the housework and find a job to get everything he wanted.
