KANDIYOHI COUNTY – The roar of vintage engines from the early 1900s echoed off the asphalt of country roads between the communities of New London and Grove City Saturday morning as drivers of 42 vintage vehicles completed the first leg of their journey to New Brighton.
Local residents waved enthusiastically, sometimes in large groups, from the end of their driveways to cheer on the vehicles as they blared along with their antique horns.
The popular event, which draws visitors from across the United States, is open to all vehicles built before 1908 and all 1- or 2-cylinder vehicles built before 1915. The meet began Wednesday and runs through Sunday. Vintage car owners in the area have been busy, stopping in neighboring communities and participating in a parade in downtown New London on Friday.
The cars made pit stops in Grove City, Litchfield, Kingston, Buffalo and Anoka on Saturday. When the cars reached their final destination in New Brighton in the afternoon, the travelers were greeted with food, entertainment and fireworks to conclude the festivities.
