“Lifetime supply of Mac and Cheese”: All the gifts Carlos Yulo received for his gold medals in Paris

While Australians competing for gold at the Olympics take home a check for $20,000 for gold, $15,000 for silver and $10,000 for bronze from the Australian Olympic Committee’s medal fund, these rules do not apply to other countries. Carlos Yulo, a gymnast from the Philippines, will receive a half-million-dollar lottery prize and a lifetime supply of free ramen, mac and cheese and colonoscopies (yes) for his gold medal efforts.

The Olympian took home gold in artistic gymnastics floor exercise and artistic gymnastics vault, and it’s safe to say the whole country is celebrating his victories as he is the only Filipino athlete to come home with a medal so far. Moreover, these gold medals are the country’s second (and third) Olympic gold medals, and he was handsomely rewarded for his efforts.

The Philippine government has pledged 10 million pesos (AU$266,000) to the 24-year-old, and the House of Representatives has promised him another 6 million pesos (AU$159,000) in cash. But no amount of money can replace a lifetime supply of free ramen, mac and cheese and colonoscopies.

All the gifts Carlos Yulo received for his gold medal:

  • 10 million pesos (AU$266,000) from the Philippine government
  • 6 million pesos (AU$159,000) in cash from the House of Representatives
  • 24,000,000 Pesos (AU$638,000) two-bedroom condo in McKinley Hill Township from Philippine real estate company Megaworld
  • A lifetime supply of FREE ramen from Hagemu Sushi and Ramen Bar in Calasiao
  • A lifetime supply of FREE Mac and Cheese
  • A lifetime supply of FREE chicken
  • Lifetime FREE consultations and colonoscopies by a gastroenterologist
  • Finally FREE University Loans from the University of Mindanao

As for gifts, Hagemu Sushi and Ramen Bar in Calasiao may have the strongest case, offering Yulo a lifetime supply of FREE ramen in a social media post that read, “Congratulations to our very own Golden Boy on his second gold medal in Men’s Artistic Gymnastics – Vault! … To celebrate your outstanding achievement, we are excited to give you a special gift: FREE RAMEN FOR LIFE, not only for you, but also for your wonderful and supportive girlfriend Chloe Anjeleigh. Enjoy the taste of victory and love with every bowl!”

In addition to the gifts, Yulo will receive a “hero’s welcome” when he returns to his hometown of Manila. Mayor Honey Lacuna told the BBC: “He and all our Paris Olympians will be given the most magnificent welcome. When we meet him, we will present Carlos Yulo with cash awards, accolades and symbols of eternal gratitude from the proud capital of the Philippines.”

Although Yulo has been showered with support and gifts from his country, Hong Kong athletes are still the biggest winners at the 2024 Paris Olympics, with the gold medalists taking home $1.17 million. The winners from Singapore will get $1.13 million for winning the gold medal, which isn’t too bad either.
