SINGAPORE – A student at a Singapore university shared how she can use her status as a university student to save money and get other discounts when purchasing Singapore Airlines tickets.
While student discounts on airline tickets are nothing new, Woo Ling Ling, a 21-year-old student at the National University of Singapore, highlighted the tip in a TikTok clip posted on June 2, which has since received more than 190,000 views and over 15,000 likes.
The business student told Yahoo Finance Singapore that she learned about the discount from friends when she was planning her student exchange to San Francisco from August to December.

Students save 10% on round-trip Economy Class or Premium Economy Class tickets and can check 40 kg on flights to and from the USA and Canada. Normally, the baggage allowance for Economy Class passengers is 25 kg or 30 kg.
Students can also make one free change to their destination, flight date or cabin class on their first booking.

In a follow-up video posted a day later on her TikTok account lingdingd0ng, Woo showed how to get the student discount, which involves three steps: signing up as a KrisFlyer member, logging into your school’s website to confirm your student status, then searching for student rates before booking your tickets.

Student status must be reviewed annually.
In a third video, Woo said she managed to save $206 on her flight from Singapore to San Francisco and take 23 kg of extra baggage with her.

Other airlines also offer student benefits
Singapore Airlines is not the only airline offering student discounts.
Other airlines where students can enjoy privileges include Qatar Airways, Cathay Pacific and Emirates.
Students who want to fly with Emirates can use a promo code to get discounts of up to 10 percent if they book their flight before September 30. They also get 10 kg of additional baggage allowance.
Students flying with Cathay Pacific can use student fare discount codes and must present proof of eligibility when checking in at the airport.
Students who wish to enjoy discounted fares on Qatar Airways must join the Student Club to enjoy the benefits.
