Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” crosses the billion mark at the box office worldwide

Deadpool and Wolverine, aka Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, have received their membership cards to the billion-dollar box office club.

Marvel Studios and Disney’s summer blockbuster accomplished the feat on Saturday and will close the weekend with an estimated $1.029 billion in worldwide ticket sales, including $494.3 million domestically and $535.2 million internationally. It is only the second R-rated title in history to reach the milestone.

Directed by Shawn Levy, the bold third appearance in the Dead Pool The series is a huge success for franchise mastermind Ryan Reynolds as well as for Marvel Studios and the superhero genre in general. It is the first superhero film to cross the $1 billion mark since Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home two and a half years ago, and the first Marvel/Disney MCU picture crossed the $1 billion mark since Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

In addition, the third installment in the bold superhero series is just days away from hitting Warner Bros. and Todd Phillips’ joker (US$1.079 billion), becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time at the worldwide box office. Deadpool and Wolverine is now number 2 after OppenheimerIn North America, the film already has an age rating of R.

Deadpool and Wolverine is the 55th film to cross the $1 billion mark; the 31st Disney title to do so (including three 20th Century Fox films acquired as part of the merger); and the 11th MCU film, including two Sony Spider Man Movies.

Other notable facts: It is the second film of the year to join the billion-dollar club, after Disney/Pixar’s sister film Inside Out 2which now tops the list of highest-grossing animated films of all time with nearly $1.6 billion in worldwide ticket sales. Disney is the only studio to deliver two billion-dollar films in a row in one year.

Deadpool and Wolverine has broken one record after another since its debut on the weekend of July 26-28, including quickly beating the combined running times of the first two Dead Pool Films, both domestically and worldwide, after just two weekends in theaters.
