Charming small town in Ontario is ideal for a day trip from Toronto

Picton in Prince Edward County, Ontario is an ideal day trip destination, less than two hours from Toronto.

This charming little town offers a delightful mix of nature, history, boutiques and culinary delights.

My ideal day in Picton starts with a refreshing morning hike in the Macaulay Mountain Nature Reserve, just a short walk from downtown Picton. The trails here vary in difficulty, but the Blakely Trail in particular offers pretty rewarding views.

After the walk, be sure to enjoy a coffee and a pastry, then visit Macaulay Heritage Park. This historic site includes Macaulay House, a Regency-style home dating to the 1830s, and a museum showcasing the history of the area.

Picton’s main street is lined with charming boutiques and cozy cafes. One of my favorites is Beacon Bike + Brew, a unique shop where you can browse bikes and quality cycling gear while sipping freshly brewed coffee.

For fashion lovers, City Revival is a must-visit. This boutique offers a curated selection of vintage and modern clothing, accessories and home decor. It’s a great place to browse for anyone looking for unique fashion pieces and gifts.

For lunch, Vic Social is a local favorite known for its breakfast and lunch offerings. Particularly popular are the Peanut Butter & Kevin Bacon Burger, Triple Pickle Pickerel, and Lobster Roll. The cozy atmosphere makes it a great place to relax and grab a meal.

After lunch, 555 Brewing Co. in downtown Picton is the place to go. This brewery offers a variety of craft beers brewed on-site. The spacious patio is a great place to sample some beers and maybe eat a wood-fired pizza.

If you’re staying in town for dinner, Merrill House offers an upscale dining experience with a seasonal menu featuring locally sourced ingredients. The elegant ambience and creative dishes make it a place for an unforgettable meal.

For something a little more casual, the Barley Room Pub in the Waring House on Sandy Hook Road is the place to go, offering a Scottish pub atmosphere and a menu that highlights the flavors of the region.

I find that no visit to Prince Edward County is complete without a trip to a winery. The Huff Estates Inn & Winery, just outside of Picton, is known for its excellent wines and beautiful patio overlooking the vineyards. It also has an art gallery, making it a great place to relax.

Overall, the charm and variety of attractions make Picton a fun getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. I’m already checking my calendar to see when I can go next!
