CAIRO – August 11, 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty arrived in Kigali to attend the inauguration of Rwandan President Paul Kagame on Sunday.

Numerous heads of state have gathered in the Rwandan capital to attend the inauguration ceremony, which is to take place at the Amahoro Stadium and is expected to attract around 40,000 participants.

Kagame, who has been in office since April 2000, secured his re-election in July with an overwhelming majority of 99.18% of the votes cast, according to the National Electoral Commission, thus beginning his fourth term in office.

His opponents, Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party and independent candidate Philippe Mpayimana, have both admitted defeat.

During his visit to Kigali, Abdelatty paid his respects to the Kigali Genocide Memorial and Museum, which commemorate the genocide suffered by Rwanda in 1994.

There, Abdelatty laid a wreath of flowers, left a message in the guest book and expressed his condolences to the victims and their families.

In a speech, he also highlighted the inspirational nature of Rwanda’s achievements in promoting tolerance and the resilience of the Rwandan people on their path to peace, stability and prosperity.

The Foreign Minister also met with Egyptian cardiac surgery pioneer Sir Magdi Yacoub. Both are expected to attend an event to celebrate the completion of the first phase of the Magdi Yacoub Center Rwanda – Egypt for Cardiac Surgery.

Abdelatty’s agenda includes discussions with high-level officials and dialogues with the Rwandan Foreign Minister and Health Minister.

He is expected to engage with the Egyptian community in Rwanda and participate in a roundtable discussion with prominent Rwandan business leaders and private sector representatives.
