Memorial room for fallen defenders of Dubrovnik attracts over 50,000 visitors since opening in April

Although the Memorial Room for the Fallen Defenders of Dubrovnik in Sponza Palace only opened in April, it has attracted a great deal of interest from visitors. According to the Dubrovnik Homeland War Museum, which manages the memorial room, since its opening to date over 50,000 visitors have visited this memorial room dedicated to the sacrifice of Dubrovnik’s defenders. By August 1, the memorial room had been visited by 46,347 visitors, and by the end of the first week of August the number officially exceeded 50,000.

It is worth recalling that the Memorial Room for the Fallen Defenders of Dubrovnik in Sponza was officially opened on April 12 after a complete reconstruction, interior design and furnishing. It tells the story of the city’s suffering in the war, its residents and its brave defenders, with particular emphasis on the greatest sacrifice – the lost lives of those who defended it. It is dedicated to Dubrovnik as a symbol of freedom and allows visitors to make a personal, emotional connection.

The Memorial Room was established by the City of Dubrovnik as a permanent sign of respect and gratitude to the defenders of Dubrovnik, as well as to all Croatian defenders who selflessly gave their lives in the defense and liberation of southern Croatia and who most deserved to ensure that Dubrovnik remains the City of Freedom forever.
