Heather White, founder of One Green Thing, speaks at Meredith College

Heather White, founder and CEO of One Green Thing, will deliver the lecture “Green Civics: Democracy Isn’t a Spectator Sport” at Meredith College on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. The lecture will take place at 7 p.m. in Jones Auditorium.

White is a nationally recognized expert on conservation and environmental policy and frequently appears in national media on climate, energy, and conservation issues. Her nonprofit organization, OneGreenThing.org, uses joyful daily actions to combat eco-anxiety and inspire a culture shift for policy solutions. Her talk at Meredith will focus on “Climate change, citizenship and civic spirit to build the future we want.”

In her more than 20 years of professional experience, White has worked as a litigator at a prestigious Nashville law firm, as a campaign staffer and vote recount attorney for Al Gore’s presidential campaign, as an energy and environmental consultant to U.S. Senator Russ Feingold, and as an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center and the University of Tennessee College of Law. White led environmental education efforts at the nation’s largest conservation organization, headed an environmental health regulatory agency in Washington, D.C., and led the nonprofit partner to Yellowstone National Park.

She is also the author of Eco-fear: saving our sanity, our children and our future (HarperCollins 2024), 60 days to a greener life: Alleviate your eco-anxiety through joyful action in everyday life (HarperCollins, 2024) and One Green Thing: Discover your hidden power to save the planet (HarperCollins, 2022).

This event is made possible with support from the Environmental Sustainability Program, School of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, and Carla Ashley, ’78. The lecture is free and open to the public. For Meredith students, this event is considered a general education academic/cultural event.
