Nothing is certain in Black Myth: Wukong’s decisive battle

The Chosen One was immobilized while healing in the final battle of Black Myth: Wukong.

At the peak Black Myth: WukongThe Chosen One faces off against the shattered husk of Sun Wukong himself, the legendary Monkey King whose relics the Chosen One has collected throughout the game. Unsurprisingly, Wukong’s abilities are somewhat similar to the Chosen One’s, although he can use some particularly powerful variations that go beyond what the Chosen One has access to. Most devastating is the way Wukong uses Immobilize when the Chosen One takes a sip from his healing gourd bottle.

The moment plays out as a choreographed cutscene in which Wukong slowly walks up to the frozen Chosen One, grabs the gourd, and shakes it to hear the liquid inside. Wukong takes a big sip from the gourd before throwing it back to the chosen onewho catches it as the immobilization ends. It’s not as mean a mechanic as it could be, since the Chosen One’s share of the healing still goes through before Wukong snatches the gourd away, but it still wastes a mouthful of the precious resource on Wukong and heals him for the equivalent amount.

Since the Chosen One’s healing occurs before the animation, dodging immediately after taking a sip seems to avoid punishment, but this may not be entirely consistent.

The theft of the pumpkin is not Wukong’s only measure to closeand the others are also a memorable moment. Wukong is seen turning to stone, countering the Chosen One’s attack and throwing him between clones in the air before throwing the Chosen One’s staff back at him. In another that combines two of his powers from Journey to the Westhe hops on his somersault cloud, throws the chosen one to the ground, and changes the size of his staff to smash a giant pillar down on his opponent.

At the end of the day, much of what Black Myth: WukongWhat makes ‘s battles so great is that the game places as much emphasis on presentation as it does on difficulty, and the fight against Wukong’s shattered shell is the ultimate realization of this concept. It also shows how far the Chosen One must go to truly embody everything the Monkey King was, as Wukong’s brash use of his powerful abilities is a defining aspect of his character. Defeating Black Myth: WukongThe final challenge may require more than one attempt, but the path to it is definitely not boring.
