11-year-old calls Lundie Prize a “gift from God”

An 11-year-old pastoral youth from Thames North Synod described his Lundie Memorial Award in July as a “gift from God.”

William Eneso, who attends Askew Road Church, a LEP between the United Reformed Church and the Methodist Church, was nominated by Sunday school teacher Caroline Akinyele, who described William as “a shining example of what a disciple should be like in this day and age”.“.

Caroline said: “William lives out his faith by often sharing the gospel with friends at school and at home, encouraging them to go to church and learn more about God.

“William’s pastoral skills and compassion for those around him were evident in his actions when a family was going through a very difficult time following the death of their child – someone William knew.

“William remained a strong, encouraging and supportive ally, standing by to comfort and pray for others and using his skills to make others laugh when needed.

“William also led a short, powerful discussion in his Sunday school class about who he believed Jesus the Savior was and how Jesus conquered death, a testament to his strong and growing faith.”

When he learned he had won in July, William said: “It was a surprise because it felt like a gift from God. I really only go to church to serve God.”

“I enjoy helping in Sunday school, especially with the younger people, and helping them make the right choices when they face challenges. Sometimes sad things happen in life, but I enjoy being there for people and praying for them. I just want the church to look even better for young people.”

Each Lundie Prize recipient receives £100. William plans to split his prize between charity and community work, particularly hosting a community football match.
