Washington:

The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which is investigating the assassination attempt on Donald Trump at the Republican rally in Pennsylvania last month, has announced that the gunman, Thomas Crooks, acted alone.

The FBI said it found no evidence of foreign involvement in the case, but the investigative agency said the motive for the attempted murder remained unclear.

The FBI shared details about the shooter’s search history and said 20-year-old Thomas Crooks has various ideologies. They also shared photos of the weapon used and said they found improvised explosive devices, or IEDs, in his vehicle.

When discussing Thomas Crooks’ search history, the FBI revealed that he had searched for information about the Republican presidential candidate, as well as his then-rival, Democratic candidate and President Joe Biden, more than 60 times. The shooter’s online searches date back to September 2023. After nearly a year of intensive searching, the shooter decided to register for the Trump rally.

The FBI said the gunman made a “sustained, detailed attempt” to attack a large crowd before finally deciding to attack the Republican presidential candidate at the July rally in Pennsylvania.

“We observed sustained, detailed efforts to plan an attack on some events. That is, he looked at a series of events or targets,” Kevin Rojek, the top FBI official for Western Pennsylvania, told reporters.

Mr Rojek went on to say that the crooks were “hyper-focused” on the Trump rally when it was announced, “viewing it as a target of opportunity.”
