Prince Harry’s memoir reveals who leaked Prince William’s affair story to the press; details inside

The British royal family has fascinated the average person for ages. From their high-profile divorces to their alleged extramarital affairs, members of the royal family have always been in the media spotlight. With the Duke of Sussex’s recently released memoir, the explosive revelations have already shocked the world. From Harry’s relationship with his father’s wife, Camila Parker Bowles, to the hidden skeletons in the royal family’s basement, Spare has already sent the internet into a frenzy.

In his memoirs, Prince Harry accused his father, Prince Charles, and his stepmother, as well as the royal press teams, of spreading false rumors about the private life of his older brother, Prince William.

Due to the shocking revelations in his memoirs, Prince Harry later blamed Camilla Parker Bowlers and King Charles for the rumor that his older brother Prince William was having an affair.

According to the Duke of Sussex, King Charles’ long-time girlfriend and later wife Camilla Parker Bowles was a serial offender in the royal family. Prince Harry mentioned in his memoirs that he knew from the first time he met Camilla Parker Bowles in 1988 that she was playing a long-term game that would eventually lead to marriage and then the crown.

Harry writes: “Stories about her private conversation with Willy were appearing everywhere, in all the newspapers – stories containing minute details, none of which had come from Willy, of course. They could only have been leaked by the one other person present. And the leaking had obviously been facilitated by the new spin doctor that Camilla had persuaded Pa to employ.

As Buzzfeed reported back in April 2019, Prince William’s alleged affair was widely reported and even drew unnecessary attention to the palace. Media outlet In Touch picked up the story in 2019, followed by the Daily Beast, which mentioned that Prince William’s legal team tried to quash the rumors about his alleged affair.

However, the Duke of Sussex made it clear in his memoirs that Prince William did not suspect that King Charles and Camilla were behind all this. Prince Harry’s memoir states:

“Technically, they weren’t. It was the most enthusiastic member of Pa’s communications team, a staunch supporter, who had conceived and launched a campaign to get good press for Pa and Camilla at the expense of bad press for us. This person had been selling unflattering stories, false stories, about the heir and the surrogate to all the newspapers for some time.”

Between the pages of Spare, Prince Harry even suggested that King Charles and Camilla not only leaked the conversations, but also deliberately told inaccurate stories about the Cambridges and Sussesses to their preferred press representatives.

However, the story that the Duchess of Sussex made Kate Middleton cry also brought a negative media spotlight on the royal family. As Prince Harry mentioned in Spare, members of the royal family knew that these unfounded rumors had no weight, but they still didn’t bother to correct them or stop them from spreading in the media.

The Duke of Sussex writes: “Who could have orchestrated something like this? Who could leak it to the press anyway? Who? We went in circles. The list of suspects got shorter and shorter. Finally, finally, Willy sat back and admitted that, er, while Harry and Meghan were on tour in Australia, he and Kate had gone to dinner with Pa and Camilla. And, oh, he said sheepishly, he could leak that there had been a falling out between (the Sussexes and the Cambridges).”

However, after a brief confrontation with his brother Prince William, he realized that the story came from the press office of King Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles.
