Shopper is shocked when she discovers the true value of inconspicuous candle holders from a second-hand shop: “This is a great catch”

Quality home decor doesn’t have to cost hundreds of dollars, as shoppers can always find great bargains and special offers at their local thrift stores.

One lucky thrift shopper recently shared his stunning find on Reddit – a candlestick worth nearly $400 that he purchased for a fraction of the price.

The buyer posted on the r/ThriftStoreHauls subreddit that he didn’t expect to come across such a stunning sale again.

“This will never happen again. I paid less than $10,” wrote the bargain hunter, revealing that he also had a 20% coupon that saved him even more money at his local Goodwill.

The bargain hunter had purchased two quartz candle holders designed by top designer Kathryn McCoy.

Photos shared in the post showed that each of the candle holders was sold at Goodwill for just $5.49 a piece. Brand new, these candle holders retail for $375 and can be worth up to $899 when resold on e-commerce sites like eBay.

The bargain hunter not only purchased a beautiful new decorative piece for his home, but also saved hundreds of dollars on the purchase.

Secondhand shopping is one of the easiest ways for homeowners and renters to furnish their homes on a budget. Popular stores like Goodwill or Savers regularly sell high-quality products at deeply discounted prices for budget-conscious shoppers.

A report from CouponFollow estimated that consumers can save nearly $150 a month – or around $1,760 a year – by choosing to shop at thrift stores instead of major retailers like Walmart or Target.

At the same time, shopping secondhand is a more sustainable way to decorate your home or buy new outfits. Most clothing, furniture and decorative items are mass-produced and shipped around the world, releasing toxic, air-warming pollutants. Choosing to buy secondhand items can reduce the demand for mass-produced products while also keeping used items out of overcrowded landfills.

Other Reddit users were excited about the great find and one suggested that the junk buyer “pay homage to the gods of thrift.”

“This is a great achievement,” wrote another. “Great! I’m really jealous right now.”

“I’m so happy for you!” said a third.
