Bowling Green-Warren County Bar Association hosts annual ceremony

BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky – The Bowling Green-Warren County Bar Association met Wednesday for a social gathering and to present some awards.

The annual ceremony is a chance for old friends to meet, give acceptance speeches and, of course, talk about the common point of contention that can be a legal battle. Three attorneys went home with a new award Wednesday afternoon. News 40 spoke with the winners as the afternoon drew to a close.

The association’s highest honor is the William H. Natcher Award, which recognizes the humility and selfless service of Congressman Natcher. It can only be won by retirees and this year went to Charles E. English, who observed Natcher’s work in the courtroom as a child.

Attorney Mark Alcott also won an award for his pro bono services. He said he represents people “who don’t have the means to afford legal representation and who are going through disasters like a tornado or caring for a family member or someone who has died and need help figuring out how to handle these everyday situations. And who have never dealt with a lawyer before, let alone spoken to one.”

B. Alan Simpson also took home a plaque for “outstanding community service.”
