Dan Lanning’s Ducks want to continue their success against Big Sky Conference opponents

For the third year in a row under head coach Dan Lanning, Oregon’s football schedule includes a matchup with a team from the Big Sky Conference: this Saturday’s season opener against Idaho.

Although the sample size is small, the Lanning era had few problems with Big Sky schools.

In 2022, in Lanning’s first home game as Oregon’s head coach, the Ducks dismantled Eastern Washington 70-14. That dominance continued into 2023, when Oregon opened its season against Portland State and set a school record in points with an 81-7 victory.

Now the Big Ten version of the Ducks wants to do it again against the Vandals this weekend.

“I think we really try to make that our thing,” Ducks senior linebacker Jeff Bassa said. “It’s never about external factors or the other team. We know we have a great team and we know we can control what we control. We have to go into every game knowing we have to play at our best level. It’s not about the other team, we have to play at our best level.”

“You’re always excited to get on the field and play,” head coach Dan Lanning said. “But you just focus on the moment, the practice you’re in, the next film session, that’s what really keeps you going.”

On Wednesday, Oregon unveiled its uniforms for Week 1 against Idaho: the “Gang Green” combination from the “Generation O” series.

Kick-off is Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
