Story Trail Walk in Pine Hill for Children

Story Trail Walk in Pine Hill for Children

WAYNESBORO – Area families are invited to register their children for a walk along the story trail on Sunday, Sept. 8, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Pine Hill Recreation Area, hosted by Buttonwood Nature Center, home of the institute.

Children can take part in a guided walk and activities along the story trail while reading a story book and then creating a special craft project to take home.

The book for September is “Pick a Circle, Gather Squares: A Fall Harvest of Shapes” by Felicia Sanzari Chernesky, with illustrations by Susan Swan.

“This book celebrates the visual delights of fall – not just colors, but shapes,” said Pam Rowland, Buttonwood’s director of education. “Kids love the lyrical verses, enhanced by colorful, collage-inspired art.”

This book follows a family on a trip to a pumpkin patch and invites children to identify shapes in the seasonal landscape—apple bush circles, square hay bales, diamond kites in the autumn sky.

The event is free, but pre-registration is required by September 6. Registration is available online at: www.buttonwoodnaturecenter.org.

For more information, please contact Buttonwood at 717-762-0373 or email: (email protected)The number of participants is limited to 20 children.

All families are welcome, but activities are geared toward preschool and elementary school-aged children.

The Buttonwood/Institute Story Walks are supported by primary sponsor Julia S. Dawson. Other sponsors include Kathy Helfrick, with additional support from Today’s Horizon Fund donors: The Nora Roberts Foundation, Marge Kiersz, and the family of the late Carolyn Terry Eddy with daughters Connie Fleagle and Kim Larkin. The facility is supported courtesy of Washington Township.

The Pine Hill StoryWalk® Trail was a project of the Institute/Buttonwood Nature Center, funded in part by the WellSpan Summit Endowment, Marge Kiersz and the Rouzerville Business Association, with in-kind contributions from Washington Township, Hopewell Manufacturing, Waynesboro Area School District “Be the Village” and the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library.

The StoryWalk® project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont, and developed in partnership with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
