Texas A&M two-way player added to freshman of the year list

In an upcoming season full of championship expectations for the No. 20 Texas A&M Aggies, another Aggie is on the preseason waiting list for an award: two-way player Terry Bussey.

As the Maxwell Football Club announced on Wednesday morning, Bussey was added to the Shaun Alexander Preseason Watch List.

The award, named after the Seahawks running back who was named NFL MVP in 2005, is given annually to the most outstanding freshman player in all of college football.

Consistently ranked as one of the top two-way recruits in the country in the class of 2024, the freshman from Timpson, Texas played cornerback/safety and quarterback in high school and was rated a five-star talent and the best athlete in the country by 247 Sports, Rivals.com and ESPN’s recruiting services.

Bussey already has several accolades under his belt, including being named an Under Armour All-American and a 2024 Polynesian Bowl selection. In 2023, Bussey was a finalist for Dave Campbell’s Mr. Texas Football Player of the Year award.

In his senior year at Timpson, he led the school to a perfect 16-0 record and a UIL 2A-D1 state championship. Bussey scored six touchdowns while throwing for 311 yards and adding 155 more with his legs and was easily named the championship game’s offensive MVP. He also set the championship game record for the longest touchdown pass (97 yards) as well as a 93-yard rushing touchdown in Class 2A.

Finalists for the seventh annual Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year will be announced on December 4 and the winner will be announced on December 26. The award will be presented on March 14, 2025, at the 88th annual Maxwell Football Club Awards in Atlanta.

It’s safe to say that the Aggies have a real weapon on their hands that will surely cause problems for Notre Dame, Texas and LSU if used correctly in the game plan.
