John Schneider provides important injury updates on Abe Lucas and Uchenna Nwosu

Seattle Seahawks General Manager John Schneider met with the media after practice on Wednesday and clarified some open questions about injuries:

He expects right tackle Abe Lucas to play this year … at some point. Last year, Pete Carroll described Lucas’ knee issue as “bothering” before Lucas underwent surgery in January to fix the problem. After the surgery, Schneider was hopeful when asked if the surgery would “fix everything.” “Hopefully, yes,” he said. When asked about Lucas today – seven months later – Schneider sounded hopeful again, saying, “We want to make sure we do what’s right for Abe, which is what’s right for the Seattle Seahawks.”

When asked if he had any concerns about Lucas playing this year, Schneider replied, “No, none. I think we’re just being as cautious as possible.”

And there is less good news: John Schneider answered “no” when asked if he expected to place Uchenna Nwosu on the injured list. Nwosu was injured in the first quarter of the Seattle Seahawks’ final preseason game against the Browns – he was badly injured by Wyatt Teller in his left knee. Initial reports said Nwosu would need two to six weeks to recover – which suggests Nwosu will be placed on the injured list for four weeks.

On Tuesday, the Seahawks whittled down their final roster to 53 players, and fans were surprised to learn that Nwosu was on it (and not on the injured list), suggesting that his recovery time could be trending closer to two weeks rather than six. Schneider confirmed that today. When asked if Uchenna could be available to Nwosu in week one against the Broncos, Schneider replied, “…it’s too early to say if Uchenna can play in week one, but the fact that he’s obviously not on the injured list suggests that the plan is to get him back in at least a couple of weeks.”

John Schneider also said he was unsure whether Connor Williams (torn ACL) and Rayshawn Jenkins (calf) would be in the starting lineup for the Seahawks’ opening game.
