One of John Wayne’s best Westerns of all time lands on Paramount+

Return to the Wild West with True determination on Paramount+. The western film, which earned John Wayne his second Oscar for Best Actor and was nominated for Best Original Song, True determinationbecomes Available to stream on Paramount+ from September 1st.




Based on the 1968 novel of the same name by Charles Portis. True determination follows Mattie Ross (Kim Darby), who, after the cold-blooded murder of her father by his hired helper Tom Chaney (Jeff Corey), goes on a quest to seek true justice. To do so, she enlists the help of the gruff, old, eyepatch-wearing U.S. Marshall Reuben Cogburn (John Wayne), known by the nickname “Rooster.” On their journey to modern-day Oklahoma, they also receive the support of Texas Ranger La Boeuf (Glen Campbell), who is looking for a man to accompany Chaney. The three embark on a journey through unexplored Indian territory, motivated only by themselves and the need for revenge.



The Legacy of True Grit

The film was a huge success and landed at number one in the US box office charts after eleven weeks. The film received two Oscar nominations, one for Best Actor and one for Best Original Song. Wayne won the award for Best Actor that same year. The success of the film led to a sequel titled Hahn Cogburn In 1975, John Wayne returned to play the legendary US Marshall. The film also had a made-for-television spinoff titled True Grit: Another Adventure in 1978. None of the original cast was involved. Finally, in 2010, the Coen brothers made a remake of the original film with Jeff Bridges and Hailee Steinfeld, who made her feature film debut here.
