Studio Ghibli releases its 2025 anime artwork calendars for pre-order

Since 1996, Studio Ghibli has produced two official calendars for its fans every year – one of which is dedicated exclusively to the fan favorite. My Neighbor Totoroand the other is an “Art Frame” calendar that will showcase a different film from the studio’s extensive catalog each month. Now, staff have revealed the two 2025 offerings and made both calendars available for pre-order.

It is not difficult to see why the My Neighbor Totoro The annual calendar has been a classic for nearly 30 years; the film and its titular forest creature are often cited by domestic and international fans as one of the most popular in Studio Ghibli’s collection. The 2025 calendar features many iconic scenes, from Mei sitting on Totoro’s belly in the middle of a forest clearing, curiously gazing at his sleepy expression, to Satsuki sitting on the cat bus as it speeds off. “Every time you turn the page, you can almost hear the dialogue and music from that scene,” the website says.

Studio Ghibli’s 2025 calendars feature Nausicaä, Totoro, Kiki and more

Studio Ghibli’s 2025 Art Frame Calendar features a variety of screenshots from numerous films, including Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Kiki’s little delivery service and many more. The studio’s latest film, The Boy and the Heronis also represented for the month of July (fitting, since it was originally released in July 2023). The Art Frame calendar is so named because each individual image can be used as a poster; Studio Ghibli encourages owners to frame their favorite scenes to display them even after the year is over. “By covering it with a cel sheet and a frame, it feels luxurious like a cel painting,” the website says. “The part where you write your schedule has plenty of space, and the paper is of a quality that allows you to write on it with a pencil.”

The My Neighbor Totoro The calendar measures 364 x 515 mm (B3 size), while the Art Frame calendar is slightly larger at 600 x 420 mm when opened. Both items are priced at 1,980 yen and 3,300 yen (approximately US$14 and US$23, respectively) and are available for pre-order now through Studio Ghibli’s official online museum store, with shipping expected in late September. While the calendars are not currently listed on Ghibli’s English-language museum store page, they may appear there at a later date. The store ships worldwide, including to PO boxes and APO/EPO/DPO addresses.

My Neighbor Totoro and the majority of Studio Ghibli’s film catalog is available to stream on Max for viewers in the US and Japan. For viewers in Canada, Europe, Africa, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand, the same films can be streamed on Netflix. The latter streamer also recently announced that The last fireflies – the only Ghibli film not available on Max for American audiences for legal reasons – will hit the platform worldwide on September 16, 2024.
