Riley Green’s headlining show at Sandwich Fair was almost sold out – Shaw Local

If you want to see country chart-topper Riley Green perform at Sandwich Fair next month, you should buy tickets soon.

His headlining show on September 6th is almost sold out.

“Right now we have a few hundred tickets left,” said Larry Dannewitz, president of the Sandwich Fair Board.

The show starts at 8pm. The seating capacity is approximately 7,000.

Green is known for platinum hits such as “There Was This Girl” and “I Wish Grandpas Never Died.” Last year, Jordan Davis’ headlining show at Sandwich Fair sold out before the show even began – a first for the fair.

Tickets for the show are available on the Sandwich Fair website: sandwichfair.com.

The Sandwich Fair will be held September 4-8 at the Sandwich Fairgrounds, 15730 Pratt Road, Sandwich. In addition to Green’s main act, other musical groups will perform throughout the weekend.

The Banjo Buddies Dixieland Band has been entertaining visitors to the Sandwich Fair for 20 years.

The Sandwich Fair began as an annual livestock show in DeKalb County. It has been held annually since 1888 from the Wednesday through Sunday after Labor Day and is one of the oldest county fairs still in existence in Illinois.

The fair, which was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, normally attracts between 150,000 and 200,000 visitors annually.

There will be a new event at this year’s fair – the Sandwich Fair Shake Up Shuffle 5K Run/Walk. The event will take place on September 2nd from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. before the Sandwich Fair begins.

“One of the people involved with the fair said we needed something new and more exciting for the younger people, so he came up with the idea of the 5K,” Dannewitz said. “And to do it right, we decided to do it on Labor Day. We’ve had a great response. I think we’re at 750 participants, and we’re getting close to that goal.”

The event takes place on the exhibition grounds and participants can witness the construction of the trade fair.

“People seem very interested in it, so hopefully it will be a big event for us,” Dannewitz said.

Other activities at the Sandwich Fair include harness racing, livestock judging, truck pulling, a demolition derby and a vintage car show. While walking around the fairgrounds, visitors can watch a medicine show, stilt walking and juggling, among other things.

The livestock judging was part of the Sandwich Fair, which took place from 6 to 10 September.

“There is something for everyone,” he said.

Just in time for the Sandwich Fair, the redevelopment of North Latham Street is nearing completion.

“It would be nice if that were done,” said Dannewitz. “This is one of our main roads to get to the fair.”

This is the 35th year he has been involved in organizing the festival. Dannewitz works on a voluntary basis.

He noted that the Sandwich Fair helps put sandwich in the spotlight.

“I think the fair is good for the community and the surrounding area,” Dannewitz said. “It brings people to our area and it’s fun to be a part of it in the background. For many of us, it’s a year-round job. We have a lot of great volunteers.”

More volunteers are needed for this year’s fair. If you would like to volunteer or would like more information about the Sandwich Fair, visit the website at sandwichfair.com.
