GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Packers gave a rookie a chance to be their kicker in 2023, and they will give another rookie a chance this year.

The Packers have claimed Brayden Narveson, a rookie free agent who spent training camp with the Tennessee Titans, off the waivers list, adding him to their 53-man roster. The Packers need to trim one player from their roster, but it’s not clear if veteran Greg Joseph will be the one cut.

The Packers kept Joseph and released Anders Carlson, a sixth-round pick in 2023, on Tuesday.

Narveson had an excellent preseason, making 6 of 7 field goals, including a 59-yarder, and hitting both of his extra points. The Titans stuck with veteran Nick Folk instead of going for the undrafted Narveson.

Narveson’s only missed throw for the Titans was from 58 yards. He made field goals from 34, 21, 59, 46, 26 and 31 yards. The 46-yarder was the game-winning shot against Seattle as time expired.

The 6-foot-tall, 215-pound rookie played at Iowa State (2018-19), Western Kentucky (2020-22) and North Carolina State (2023).

In college, he converted 71 of his 91 field goal attempts (78%) and scored all of his 196 extra points.

The Packers could opt to keep Joseph and have both kick at practice next week. They could take both kickers through the first game if they are unsure about keeping Narveson. But both are on the 53-man roster and a move must be made to reduce the number by one.
