Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes has been the centre of celebrations of late, as the player celebrated his 26th birthday on Tuesday. However, a recent social media post from his Portuguese teammate and Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes showed that Nunes did not include the player in the celebrations.
Matheus Nunes moved from Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers to Manchester City almost a year ago. So far, he has made a total of 31 appearances, mostly as a substitute on the bench.
Nunes turned 26 on Tuesday and received birthday wishes from Manchester City, his teammate Josko Gvardiol as well as likes and comments from other teammates on his Instagram post.
But a birthday greeting came from Matheus’ Portuguese teammate and club rival Bruno Fernandes, who said in a sarcastic message that he had not been invited to any celebrations. Nunes reposted the message in his Instagram story.
The Red Devil wrote: “Happy birthday (and then tagged the Man City player). I hope you had a great day with your friends since you didn’t invite me to sing you Happy Birthday.”
It seems that Bruno could not hide his disappointment as Nunes did not invite the player to the celebrations.
However, one should take the whole thing with humor, as Fernandes seems to be just teasing his international teammate, which is why Matheus also reposted it on his own social media account.
Both Matheus Nunes and Bruno Fernades will be more busy with their club duties as the Premier League has got underway in recent weeks. The opening matches have had two different outcomes for the players. Nunes saw his club get off to a flying start after beating Chelsea 2-0 and Ipswich Town 4-1. However, for Fernandes and Man United, despite a 1-0 win on the opening day against Fulham, last weekend saw them suffer a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion.
While Bruno Fernandes remains a key name for Manchester City’s biggest rivals, the same cannot be said for Matheus Nunes in the Man City squad, with reports recently suggesting he could leave the club before the end of the summer transfer window.
Nothing is confirmed yet, but there is news that La Liga club Atletico Madrid have shown interest in Nunes for next season.
It has also been said that Man City could agree to a loan deal for the Portuguese player, especially following the return of popular former midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
However, Matheus Nunes himself is said to have no interest in moving away from the Cityzens and with little time left until the end of the transfer window, this is another reason why the player does not want a transfer or a loan.
It’s safe to say that Nunes had quite an eventful birthday this year.
