(HN PHOTO NOTES AND THOUGHTS ON THIS ISSUE) It was a relatively quiet night on the Cape as far as serious crime, accidents and injuries go. I guess that’s cause for celebration after the summer we’ve just had. But can HN safely report a quiet evening without jinxing the rest of the week? I certainly hope so… “Relatively quiet” doesn’t mean it was without the usual idiocy, drama and minor accidents. Just before midnight, Barnstable police were dispatched to Sea Street Beach (also known as “Keyes Memorial Beach”) because a young couple were arguing in the parking lot. Things got a little complicated when at least one of the lovebirds ran away from the cops and onto the beach, essentially enveloping themselves in darkness. The cops then had to search for them, wrestle with them and return to the parking lot with them for a little chat. It was reported as a “domestic disturbance” and the cops had to strictly follow the rules. In the past, the officers would have watched them leave and radioed, “GOA… problem solved on our side.” (I like the old days much better, in case you were wondering…) HN arrived just as the officers were returning to the parking lot with the male (he, him, his… Y chromosome) half of the equation. The lively young girl, realizing that the officers had finally found her long lost love, happily skipped over to the young man and gave him a big hug! Everything was fine again. The officers had nothing more to say except something like, “Why did you leave? It makes our job a real pain… and it’s also Really annoying… GOD!”
(“Turtledoves”, *shakes head* it will happen…) Shortly after midnight there was also a car accident on Route 6. The car had crashed down an embankment near the town line between Barnstable and Yarmouth. For once, no one was injured. Thank God!
Well, that’s it. Have a safe and wonderful Cape Cod Wednesday! PS – Today’s Hytown vignette is brought to you by Astrud Gilberto… (CLICK/CRANK IT! HEADPHONES ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED!)
