Short heatwave in San Francisco ends and gives way to foggier weather

San Francisco is finally showing signs of summer heat as the month comes to a close. On Tuesday, temperatures reached around 27 degrees for the second day in a row in parts of the city’s east side. This briefly narrowed the typical temperature difference with the traditionally warmer interior areas of the East and North Bay, where temperatures were above 35 degrees on Tuesday.

But you only have to look to the sea to see what is coming to the city and ultimately to the entire region.

The marine layer has slowly thickened over the past few days and will be more clearly visible on Wednesday, especially in the morning and evening hours. However, it is not yet strong enough to dominate the day with clouds. Temperatures will rise again to above 25 degrees in the city and to above 25 to 30 degrees in the rest of the Bay Area.

Starting Thursday, airflow will be less intense across the region. This shift will result in more clouds and fog on the coast, leading to cooler temperatures inland through the weekend.

San Francisco: More low clouds and fog are expected throughout the city, with slower dissipation, especially on the normally foggy west side. Temperatures will remain warm, reaching highs of 25 degrees in downtown and South of Market. Temperatures in the Mission and Sunset districts are expected to be between 18 and 20 degrees. Clouds will return in the evening. At night, the city will be mostly cloudy, with lows in the low 10s.

North Bay: It will be another warm and sunny day in the North Bay. Temperatures will rise to the high 30s and high 35s from San Rafael through Petaluma, Napa and Santa Rosa to Vacaville and Fairfield. Highs of over 25 degrees are expected in coastal areas near Sausalito and Vallejo. At night it will be mostly clear, with lows around 10 degrees.

East Bay: Clouds over bay-facing parts of the East Bay will quickly clear, giving way to a mostly sunny day across the region. Highs will reach the upper 70s in Richmond and Oakland. Temperatures in the low to mid 80s are expected in Fremont and Hayward. Inland, another warm day will be in store, with highs in the low to mid 90s in Concord, Walnut Creek and Livermore. At night, it will be mostly clear, with lows in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Pacific coast and peninsula: Clouds will remain along the Pacific coast, with highs between 18 and 21 degrees in Pacifica, Half Moon Bay and Daly City. The east side of the peninsula will see another mostly sunny day, with highs between 27 and 29 degrees from San Francisco International Airport to Redwood City. At night, it will be partly cloudy, especially along the coast, with lows between 13 and 16 degrees.

Santa Cruz and South Bay: Temperatures are expected to reach 35 degrees in Sunnyvale, Santa Clara and San Jose. In Santa Cruz, mornings will be mostly cloudy, with ocean temperatures keeping highs between 75 and 80 degrees. It will be warmer in the mountains, with highs around 77 degrees. At night, it will be partly cloudy, with lows between 60 and 61 degrees.
