Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden was all smiles as she celebrated her birthday with her twin sister. The professional dancer posted some snaps on Instagram with her rarely seen fraternal twin sister Becky.

The couple turned 34 and Amy posted a sweet tribute to her brother earlier in the day, sharing a photo of the two on her Instagram stories, taken during her older brother’s wedding celebrations in May last year.

“Happy birthday, my beautiful twin sister. Let’s celebrate together in our own way,” she writes, making sure to tag Becky.

Becky, for her part, took to her stories to share a photo montage of the couple from years past. “Happy birthday to my best friend, literally since day one,” she wrote. “So thankful we get to spend this day together.”

She cheekily added: “Given our baby photos, it’s no surprise which one of us became a dancing star.”

The couple later met up with friends, including Amy’s Strictly co-star Carlos Gu, to celebrate the occasion with an open-air party at home.

Amy posted a picture of the two of them in her Instagram stories, smiling broadly and holding cocktails.

For Amy, this year’s celebrations are all the more special as they come almost a year after she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which forced her to miss the final season of Strictly Come Dancing.

The dancer discovered her first lump in April 2023 – just one day before she was due to fly to the Maldives for her honeymoon with her new husband Ben.

She said the lump changed her life and she “never thought” she would be diagnosed with cancer.

In a documentary about her journey to health, she said: “It was an exciting new chapter in my life, but discovering a lump in my breast changed my life.”

“I never thought I would get cancer at my age, and even though I had family members and friends who had survived cancer, I had no idea the impact it would have on my life. I have learned so much about myself and what a cancer diagnosis means along the way.”

In Coppafeel’s Instagram chat with Erin Kennedy, Amy talked about her treatment. “Originally, I was supposed to have a lumpectomy, radiation therapy and hormone treatment.”

“But then after my MRI, they found another tumor, so a mastectomy was done, and then after my mastectomy, unfortunately, they found more tumors. After my mastectomy, unfortunately, they found more tumors. Then they found another type of cancer.”

However, doctors told Amy that she had a “very good chance of recovery” with chemotherapy. In February of this year, the singer finally gave a positive update when she announced that her last health check-up had found “no signs of disease.”
