ValleyCAST’s Arts of Fashion exhibition puts textile artists in the spotlight

ValleyCAST, the arts and culture arm of Open Sky Community Services, presents a new exhibit entitled “The Arts of Fashion” at the Spaulding R. Aldrich Heritage Gallery, 50 Douglas Road, Whitinsville. The free opening reception at 6 p.m. on September 5 will be held in conjunction with the closing concert at ValleyCAST. Free summer concert series 2024 with the Studio Two Beatles Tribute Band.

The exhibition “The Art of Fashion” shows the latest creations of local textile artists, each of whom uses different methods to create their works. Xiang Li uses watercolors to create lush, colorful paintings of Chinese empresses on silk, which are then printed onto wearable objects.

Mihoko Wakabayashi And Pamela Strombom Shelley any use Saori – The Great Adventure They learn free weaving techniques and experiment with natural fibers and color combinations to create textiles that they then use to create their own fashion designs.

Morgan Tartakoff hand carves linoleum and wood blocks and prints her images on well-crafted clothing and accessories.

Stevie Leigh is a fashion designer, seamstress and environmental activist who transforms textile waste into wearable art for her REMIX Designs.

Live models will be on display at the opening on September 5. The exhibition runs through October 24. Heritage Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit openskycs.org.
