Shortlist for the 2024 Peterson Literary Prize announced

TORONTO, NEW YORK, WASHINGTON, LONDON, KIEV, Ukraine, 27 August 2024 /CNW/ – The BCU Foundation’s Peterson Literary Fund has announced six books nominated for the 2024 Peterson Literary Prize for nonfiction. The biennial international prize recognizes the best nonfiction books in English or Ukrainian that promote a better understanding of Ukraine-related topics that are relevant to a global audience.

The Peterson Literary Prize is worth 30,000 US dollars CAD. The winner will receive a prize of 25,000 US dollars and an additional 5,000 US dollars will be awarded to the publisher of the book. The shortlisted finalists will each receive 5,000 US dollars CAD file.

The winner will be announced at the Peterson Literary Fund’s annual awards ceremony and dinner on 30 November 2024In Toronto.

Accordingly Lisa SchymkoChairman of the jury, “As a result Russia’s brutal and unfounded war against Ukrainewe have an unprecedented number of outstanding books on topics related to Ukraineits resistance and its place on the world stage. In keeping with the vision of our founding donor, the jury has selected books that dismantle Russian colonial narratives while appealing to the diverse tastes of an international readership.”

The shortlist was made by the jury of the Peterson Literary Fund 2024: Lisa Schymko (Chairman of the jury), Nadia Gereliouk (Toronto), Askold Krushelnycky (LondonWashingtonKyiv), Alexander Motyl (new York), And Marko R. Stech (Toronto).

About the Peterson Literary Fund:

The Peterson Literary Fund was founded by the Canadian philanthropist Stanley Petersonwhose generosity and foresight created a literary fund with Ukrainian roots and global reach. The Peterson Literary Fund is under the patronage of the TorontoThe BCU Foundation is a charitable foundation based in London.

The fund, launched in 2021, manages an international literary prize, several awards for translated books, and grants for writers, translators, and publishers. In accordance with the wishes of the late founder of the Peterson Literary Fund, the fund is managed by the Canadian political scientist Lisa Schymkowho also acts as chairman of the jury.

The winners will be announced at the Fund’s awards ceremony at the end of the year. Toronto.
