KGNS weather anchor Yolanda Villarreal shares stunning sky photos

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – KGNS weather anchor Yolanda Villarreal has more than just weather forecasts on her mind – she loves capturing the beauty of the skies. During a segment on KGNS News Today, Villarreal shared her favorite weather photos of the week, showing off her photography skills.

Her first featured photo was of a waning crescent moon. “It looks like someone took a bite out of the moon,” commented morning host Mindy Casso. Yolanda explained, “Yes, that’s called a waning crescent moon. It’s not full, but it’s beautiful.” She described how much she loves taking pictures of the sky, from clouds to sunrises, sunsets, and especially the moon and stars.

Villarreal also shared a stunning photo of a sunset framed by a mesquite tree. “I think it’s just art,” she said. “You can see the tree moving back and forth, and it’s so beautiful how the sun is blocked by it.” She noted the rich colors in the sky, including shades of orange, purple and pink.

When asked about her camera equipment, Villarreal revealed that all of her photos were taken with her Samsung phone. “I’m a person who loves to look at the sky and take photos,” she said. “Sunrise, sunset and moon are all free and they are so beautiful.”

Villarreal has a tip for aspiring photographers: Find a place without power lines to capture the perfect picture of the sky.
