BoDeans play at the Hobart Art Theater

The BoDeans, who composed one of the catchiest and most memorable alternative rock theme songs of the 1990s, will perform in downtown Hobart.

The Wisconsin roots, Americana and alternative rock band will perform at the Hobart Art Theater, 230 Main St. in downtown Hobart, on October 11 at 6:30 p.m.

“The BoDeans song ‘Closer to free’ was the theme song for ‘Party of Five’ and is one of those songs that everyone knows and is great to sing along to,” said promoter Paul Panicali of Mush Music. “We are really excited to bring BoDeans to Hobart.”

Led by frontman Kurt Neumann, The BoDeans are known for songs such as “Good Things,” “You Don’t Get Much,” and “Idaho.”

“BoDeans’ music has been a huge part of my life,” Kurt said in a press release. “I feel lucky to be able to do what I enjoy. I wanted to do something positive for the world in a creative way, rather than just take something away from it. And that’s what I want to do with my life. The music has always been about the working class dream of a better life, and it still is.”

T Bone Burnett produced the band’s debut album “Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams” in 1986. This was followed by tours with groups such as Bob Dylan, David Bowie, U2, Tom Petty, The Pretenders and Paul Simon.

“We have a classic, guitar-driven, Midwest rock-pop sound,” he said in a press release. “I wanted to make sure there was still music with guitars. I feel like I’m getting better at it in my fifties. So there are a lot of those big rock songs that we’ve been doing for years. I captured that vibe on this record.”

The band continues to tour actively and often performs concerts in the greater Chicago area.

“Next year I’m going to be showing up in all the cities and trying to bring people together a little bit more,” he said in a press release. “Come to a BoDeans concert, sing along and forget about everything else. That’s the reason I’m playing today. I want to spread that message as long as I can.”
