Orla Gartland releases new song “Late to the Party” featuring Declan McKenna. The song is available to stream now and is taken from Orla’s upcoming album Everyone needs a heroavailable on October 4th via New Friends, the tracklist of which has now also been announced. This fall, Gartland will embark on a North American tour, which includes stops in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto and other cities.
“‘Late To The Party’ is a big, old, cheeky song about being annoyed by the baggage you inherit when you love someone, and longing for a time when we were all blank slates,” says Orla.
“I wanted a song on the record that changed tempo a lot, something fun and loud, something indulgent. I first wrote ‘Late To The Party’ during a few solo sessions in my studio, mumbling the lyrics to myself while playing drums.
“A few months later I sent the song to Declan – I think he’s one of the greats, a truly timeless artist and songwriter. We worked on the song remotely at first, sending stems back and forth, and then went into the studio for a day to take the song apart and put it all back together. Dec’s parts and energy gave the song so much for me and after months of iteration, ‘Late To The Party’ was suddenly complete.”
The album was created between her London studio and the creative sanctuary of Middle Farm Studios in Devon. Constantly striving to evolve as a writer and producer, Gartland steered the ship through the writing and recording process, providing clear leadership all the way through to mixing and mastering. She worked with long-time collaborators Tom Stafford and Peter Miles to co-produce the album, drawing inspiration from both producers’ digital and analogue approaches.
