SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery at Cuesta College has announced the opening of a new art exhibition, details of which are described in the following press release.
The Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery at Cuesta College is proud to announce the opening of The Outsiders from the Other Side, a cross-border art exhibition showcasing the rich artistic landscape of Tijuana. The collection of nine exceptional artists will be on display from August 28 through October 11. An opening celebration is scheduled for August 28 from 4:30-7:30 p.m., and an artist panel will be held at 6 p.m. in Room 6304 and via live stream at bit.ly/outsidersfromtheotherside.
The Outsiders from the Other Side explores the complex relationship between the United States and Tijuana—a culturally intertwined connection, but one separated by the border. With their diverse and striking collection, the nine artists featured in this exhibition invite us to consider the border not just as a physical barrier, but as a symbolic gateway into another dimension. When we cross the border, or “go to the other side,” we enter a space where cultural experiences and identities are deeply interconnected and strikingly different.
The collection explores the complex and multi-layered artistic landscape shaped by the artists’ unique cross-border experiences. Through a nuanced consideration of their dual heritage, the exhibition highlights the artists’ ability to challenge and redefine traditional concepts of national identity.
“These artists, through their unique perspectives, offer us the opportunity to experience the complexity and intricate dynamics of cultural fusion and the desire for belonging,” said Tim Stark, coordinator of the Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery. “We are excited to bring these voices into our community and spark meaningful dialogue about these critical issues.”
