Brother admits his sister kicked him out of wedding photos because of crutches

A bride has decided to ask her younger brother not to appear in any of her wedding photos because his crutches did not match the color scheme of her big day.

In a recent Reddit post shared on the popular Am I the Asshole? subreddit, the bride’s brother Boris explained that his sister Sophia was getting married and that he would be using either a cane or crutches to walk and help with balance due to “mild cerebral palsy.”

“Sophia had asked me to make my cane more appealing for a wedding (the theme was black and white), which I completely understand (my normal cane is covered in stickers). Of course, I understand that it wasn’t exactly formal, so I wrapped it in black tape, which my sister was happy with,” the post said.

On the day of the wedding itself, Boris was experiencing more pain in his legs and balance problems than usual, so he swapped his black cane for blue crutches, assuming the change wouldn’t bother anyone. However, when he was able to greet his sister at the reception, she was quick to point out the change of plans.

“She seemed terribly offended that I was using my blue crutches and asked if I could just sit there and not take the crutches out so as not to ‘ruin the color scheme.’ I was frustrated but I just did it because it’s my sister and she’s right, they were very noticeable,” the post continued.

As the family began preparing for group photos, Boris was forced back to his blue crutches, while Sophia told her mother he was “ruining” the photos. She also told her to tell him he was not allowed to be in the family photos, and her mother eventually took her side in the conflict over him.

This led to the three getting into an argument and Sophia starting to cry. “My sister’s makeup was ruined and now her pictures had ‘ugly blue crutches’ in them. Our mom told me to just leave and had the groom’s brother drive me home. I wasn’t allowed to stay for dinner or the cake cutting,” Boris wrote in his Reddit post.

Since then, all family members have sided with Sophia, saying Boris ruined his sister’s “special day” with his “turmoil.”

After the photo was published, many people defended Boris in the comments section, saying that if Sophia was so upset about the color of the crutches, they could have been digitally altered to appear black in the final photos.

“Your sister made a big damn deal out of crutches that could easily be digitally altered in color, and the fact that they thought your inclusion was less important than the color scheme speaks volumes about the type of people they are,” one comment began.

“Personally, if I were you, I would use this anytime they ask you for something until they sincerely apologize or until you feel like it. If they want something from you, just tell them to get a color scheme for it. If they’re mad at you for something, just say, ‘Why do you care what someone less worthy than a color scheme does?’ Remember, you were the one who was wronged and you are not responsible for making things right. Own it.”

Another commenter agreed, writing, “Weddings are supposed to be about celebrating love and bonding with family and friends. They are NOT supposed to be about aesthetics. Or treating family like accessories instead of loved ones. Your family is made up of assholes. They support your ultra narcissistic, weak sister. You should not listen to her. Obviously you are NTA. I am sorry your family is scum.”
