Titans trade QB Malik Willis to Packers for seventh-round pick

Currently, Jordan Love is backed up by Sean Clifford (fifth-round pick in 2023) and Michael Pratt (seventh-round pick in 2024). Neither of them shone this preseason and Willis will at least provide a more experienced option.

In a 2022 draft class that lacked quarterback talent, Willis was viewed by some as a potential first-round pick. He eventually landed in the third round, where he was selected as the third quarterback overall. Willis, Kenny Pickett (first round, No. 20 overall) and Desmond Ridder (No. 74) all now play on other teams, while other big-name players like Matt Corral and Sam Howell have also moved on. Of course, the last pick of that draft, Brock Purdy, is still with the San Francisco 49ers.

Willis has played in 11 games with three starts over two seasons, all starts as a rookie when he scored 1-2 points. He has completed 53% of his 66 passes for 350 yards and has yet to throw an NFL touchdown pass. The Liberty product has some oomph with his legs, running for 144 yards (4.5 yard avg.) and scoring one touchdown.

Willis is only 25 and could get another chance to improve his game under Matt LaFleur in Green Bay. For now, though, he should slightly improve the Packers’ quarterback unit behind Love while also ending his ill-fated time in Tennessee.
