A touch of jazz in downtown Birmingham (photos)

The Taste of 4th Avenue Jazz Festival is a one-day jazz festival held annually in downtown Birmingham’s historic 4th Avenue District since 2003. The event, which takes place this year on Saturday, August 24, features jazz music, food, swing dance lessons and exhibitions, and showcases nationally known jazz artists and local jazz performers.

The festival was launched in 2003 with the goal of uniting the district by preserving the heritage of the historic 4th Avenue District and the historic art of jazz.

The festival brings people from all walks of life together in the name of music. This annual festival is a staple of the city of Birmingham and draws people from surrounding cities, counties and states.

This year’s artist lineup included James “PJ” Spraggins, Official Clutch Band, Overfloe featuring Mz. JQ Sweetz, UAB Jazz Ensemble, The Greenlight Band, Swing Theory Quartet and the legendary Bo Berry.
