ORANGE, Ohio

Suspicion, public indecency, exhibitionism: Oxford Court, Harvard Road

A local resident flagged down a patrol officer around 4 p.m. on August 3 and reported that she was driving near her home and saw a Hyundai SUV driving behind her.

She said the driver started talking to her and making strange gestures, so she walked away. But the driver approached her again with more gestures that she now perceived as sexual in nature.

He then showed her his phone with material she described as pornographic. She then walked toward the driveway when he approached her a third time.

She didn’t understand what he was saying, but saw him lift up his shirt and show her his genitals. When she told him she was calling the police, he sped off while she took a photo of the car and its license plate with her cell phone.

Police identified the suspect as a 23-year-old man from Euclid. Although the woman was unable to identify him in a photo lineup, officers spoke with his father, who made contact.

The suspect reportedly admitted something had happened. He told his father that he had asked for directions and had taken off his shirt in the process. He added that he did not believe the woman spoke English.

At the same time, the son told his father that the allegations were racially motivated. The father told police that he would bring his son to speak to officers about the incident.

Fire Department Assistance, Suspicion, Arrest Warrants: Orange Place

Shortly after noon on August 3, emergency personnel were dispatched to the Hampton Inn after a woman reported dislocating her shoulder while lifting furniture.

They found a woman in distress and without clothes on a hotel bed. Also in the room were another woman and a man believed to be from the area. The injured woman said she did not know his name, but she and the other woman had recently come to town from Washington, DC for WWE SummerSlam.

Before doctors took the woman to Ahuja for treatment, police found an arrest warrant from Beachwood and asked her if prostitution had been practiced that day. She denied it, claiming she had injured her shoulder while lifting a chair.

Police then discovered that the other woman had a warrant out of Texas for prostitution. She said the injury occurred during a sexual act between her friend and the Cleveland man.

She said her boyfriend’s shoulder often gives out due to a previous car accident and that it happened again that day. She added that the man had no intention of hurting anyone and stayed close because he felt bad about it.

The hotel management stated that they did not want the participants to return, but that the woman could return and collect her belongings after she was discharged from the hospital.

9-1-1 hang-up, trespassing, attempted trespassing: Orange Place

Police responded to a report of someone attempting to open car doors in the Courtyard by Marriott parking lot at approximately 5:30 a.m. on August 6. They received a description of the suspect. Hotel staff believed he was the same man who had been issued a warning for another trespass on the property three days earlier.

One officer said he had encountered the same suspect a few hours earlier at the Take 5 car wash. Police found him there, hiding in the attendant’s hut.

He claimed to be staying at another hotel, but police learned that he had not booked a room anywhere else.

He was taken back to the Courtyard, where the night auditor confirmed that he had been ordered not to return, but had been caught several times trying to get back in by tugging on guests’ room doors. On one occasion, he allegedly put a meal from the Bistro Bar on another guest’s room bill.

For the safety of their guests and employees, management signed a trespassing charge. The suspect was taken to a Cleveland homeless shelter. Additionally, a charge of attempted trespassing with a vehicle will be filed in Bedford Municipal Court.

Car accident, property damage: Miles Road, West Stonebrooke Drive

Responding to a report that a Subaru Forester had struck a stone light post on the evening of August 5, police encountered a female driver who stated that she had turned into the driveway of the residential complex to make a U-turn.

Instead of hitting the brakes, she accidentally hit the accelerator and hit the column, which came loose from its base. Paramedics checked her for injuries and shut off the gas line to prevent any leaks or explosions.

The driver presented proof of insurance to the homeowners association and had the car towed away.
