If curiosity isn’t enough to entice you, Sheetz — the family-owned gas station and convenience store chain that’s opening its first Michigan location on Tuesday — is promising free coffee and soda, gift cards and “free Sheetz for a year.”

The store, located at 33380 Wick Road, is scheduled to open at 8 a.m. The grand opening celebration will be held in front of the store from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. A grand opening will be held at 10:45 a.m. with remarks from CEO Travis Sheetz and local dignitaries.

Since announcing its expansion into Michigan, Sheetz has stated that its goal is to become a familiar retailer to Michigan residents by opening 50 or more stores in the state over the next few years, with more stores expected to be added as it expands nationwide.

However, some communities in the Detroit area have rejected the company’s proposal to open stores. And in an indication that Sheetz is still getting familiar with the state, the company referred to the carbonated sweetened beverages as “soda” instead of “pop” — at least in its most recent opening announcement.

Based in Altoona, Pennsylvania, near the center of the state, the company describes itself as a fast-growing company that is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, employs more than 26,000 people and operates more than 740 stores in several states, including Ohio.

On Tuesday, in addition to the free drinks, $250 gift cards and “a year of free Sheetz,” which the company estimates to be worth around $2,500, the company also plans to donate $5,000 to Forgotten Harvest, a nonprofit organization dedicated to feeding people as part of its goal to “fight hunger.”

Sheetz said the company also plans to give away thermal bags to people who bring non-perishable food items to donate to Forgotten Harvest. The company also plans to donate $5,000 to the Romulus Parks and Recreation department and another $5,000 to the Special Olympics of Michigan.
