Rooted in Wyoming (RiW) Executive Director David Johnson and Board Member Hanne Wellborn appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to invite the community to the RiW Grow Local, Eat Local Food Festival taking place at Bridges on Saturday, September 7th from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Presented by RiW and Freedom Foods Co-op, this is RiW’s 8th annual fundraiser that spotlights local growers, highlights local resilience, and celebrates cultivating a culture of collaboration deeply rooted in local food and Sheridan County growers.

The event offers plenty for children, such as games and bouncy castles. The festival also features a separate Food Freedom table with a selection of locally sourced condiments and cheeses. This Food Freedom table connects guests with local producers who, thanks to the Wyoming Food Freedom Act (WFFA), are able to provide the abundance of their labor directly to the public.

According to the Wyoming Department of Agriculture, in 2015, the Wyoming Legislature passed HB0056, which created the Wyoming Food Freedom Act (WS 11-49-101 through 11-49-103), which took effect on March 3, 2015, and was amended on July 1, 2017. The general purpose of the WFFA is to allow the sale and consumption of home-cooked foods.

The event will also feature music from A Band Named Sue, The Tinderwoods and Victoria Haun. While attendees enjoy the food and atmosphere, they will also have the opportunity to see what RiW has been working on at the Bridges location.
