The well-known director Quentin Tarantino recently spoke in a comedy podcast about his disinterest in Toy Story 4.
In an episode of Club Random with Bill Maher, the Once upon a time… in Hollywood Director said: “I don’t watch all the cartoons and stuff, but I’m a big fan of the Toy history Trilogy. I think there is only one trilogy that absolutely and completely works, and that is For a handful of dollars, For a few dollars more And The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.”
In the now viral clip, he talked about the Italian film series starring Clint Eastwood and the success behind it. He mentioned that in all three films, the films followed a “vision of a single director,” namely filmmaker Sergio Leone.
“It does what no other trilogy has ever done,” he told Maher. “The first film is great, but the second film is so great and puts the whole idea on such a big screen that it eclipses the first. And then the third film does the same thing to the second, and that’s what never happens. You see this big jump from the first to the second, and they don’t really pull off the third film.”
He mentioned that he feels Mad Max Series, like many others, struggles to maintain its quality in all parts. In contrast, Tarantino praised the Toy history Series that draws a parallel to the Dollar Trilogy in terms of its ability to land a shot.
He particularly emphasized Toy Story 3he called it “great” and one of the best films he’d ever seen, especially if you’d seen the first two. According to Tarantino, the third film concluded the story perfectly, so much so that he didn’t want to see the fourth film. Although he admitted that it could be good, he felt that the story had already found its ideal conclusion with the third film.
A fifth episode of the Toy history Franchise is in development. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed at this year’s D23 Expo that Andrew Stanton, the two-time Oscar winner and writer of all four previous Toy Story films, will return to direct the new installment. The film, which explores the impact of technology on children’s lives, is scheduled to hit theaters on June 19, 2026.
