Eye For Sound Gallery, one of Los Angeles’ newest original art venues, will present its inaugural exhibition, “The Lost Technique,” beginning August 31. It features one-of-a-kind paintings and limited edition reproductions by artist Serj Tankian, best known as the lead singer of the Grammy-winning rock band System of a Down.
“The Lost Technique” recalls a time when art was a meditative experience, using collected objects as tools to create, when the hand was guided by the invisible to step out of nothingness into the present.
The pieces on display are all a product of this lost technique, where ordinary objects surrounding the canvas become the brush. Where the searching eye finds elusive shapes everywhere.
Tankian creates a unique listening and viewing experience with his artwork. Each painting is accompanied by music composed by the artist, which is as essential to his artistic expression as the paint on the canvas.
The embedded music and other content is unlocked and accessed through Arloopa, a free mobile application for iOS and Android devices that uses optical recognition technology to identify his works and allows viewers of his artwork to hear the corresponding musical score for each painting.
Eye For Sound was born out of a desire to create a unique, immersive experience that combines groundbreaking art with its exclusive musical score. Much like in films, the music is intended to be as integral a part of the artwork as the paint on the canvas.
Eye For Sound Gallery, a premier art gallery in Eagle Rock, California, serves as a home base for local and international artists practicing this unique discipline, as well as traditional artists whose artwork inspires generations. “The Lost Technique” runs August 31 through September 28.
