The five most important spring interior design trends and how to implement them on a small budget

With the cost of living a significant concern for many Australians, Justine Wilson, founder of Vault Interiors, shares her top tips on how to achieve a spring-ready look without breaking the bank.

Let there be light
One of the easiest ways to create a better spring mood is to maximize the light in the home. According to Ms Wilson, the first thing to do in a property is to turn on the overhead lights, as well as any table lamps and floor lamps.
Additionally, agents should “open windows/doors and blinds to let in natural light.” This combination of artificial and natural light creates a bright and inviting atmosphere. Wilson also suggests booking viewings that coincide with the best lighting conditions in the property, which depends on the orientation of the home. A well-lit home feels more spacious and inviting, making it easier for potential buyers to imagine living there.

Invest in reusable open day essentials
To make open houses consistently attractive, Ms Wilson advises agents to invest in a few key elements that can be used again and again.
“Agents could look at beautiful doormats and candles for their viewings that they can use from property to property.”
These small touches can enhance the atmosphere of the home and are easy to transport between properties. In addition, a set of spare bulbs is essential to ensure that all the lights are working during viewings.
For decoration, Wilson suggests a practical and stylish solution: “A few artificial stems of greenery in vases can really brighten up a coffee or dining table and can be used over and over again if the owners don’t want to buy fresh flowers every time they open it.” This tip offers an inexpensive yet elegant way to improve the look of the home.

\Basic styling rules for agents
For agents who don’t work with a professional stylist, Ms. Wilson offers some basic guidelines to keep in mind when preparing a home.
“Suggest to the owner that he declutter, tidy and clean the house.”
This will make the property look fresh and tidy, which is key to attracting potential buyers. Ms Wilson also advises hiring a “professional cleaning and gardening service to come and check the property once” to make sure nothing is overlooked.
“Don’t neglect the windows or cleaning the house,” she adds, as these small details can have a big impact on the overall impression.”
Wilson emphasizes the importance of depersonalizing the space.
“Tell the owners to pack away anything personal, such as religious symbols, items with names on them and personal photos,” she advises. This creates a neutral environment where potential buyers can imagine themselves in the space. This is important to build a strong connection to the property.”
