CASPER, Wyoming – About 100 participants tested their playground skills and endurance training at the 307 Bison Stampede obstacle course on Casper Mountain on Saturday, Aug. 10. The children’s race following the 5K/10K race was sold out with 30 entries, organizers said.

The second edition of the event is a new passion of Sheila and Nick Jacobs of Casper. They wanted to bring their love of Spartan Races and similar obstacle races to Casper, since most enthusiasts have to travel out of state to participate.

Proceeds from the registry went to Mills-based Project Kenny, a nonprofit that pairs veterans with service dogs specially trained to alleviate PTSD and related conditions.

“You can tell that the people who put this on are doing it with love,” said Jarod Mcdaniel, a friend of Jacobs and winner of the 10K race. The nutritional key to success is “gas station coffee,” said Mcdaniel.

“There’s a lot of work going on behind the scenes,” Nick said. Volunteers and the Wyoming National Guard helped build the obstacles. The course runs on public and municipal land, including parts of the Hogadon Basin Ski Area.

“I hope it continues because it’s a sport we love and enjoy and hopefully the Casper community will get a new hobby,” Mcdaniel said.
