Former wicketkeeper and batsman Kamran Akmal said the humiliating defeat to Bangladesh has cast a lasting shadow over Pakistani cricket and will never be forgotten.

Former wicketkeeper and batsman Kamran Akmal had a nervous breakdown after Pakistan’s shock defeat to Bangladesh in the opening Test. The visitors recorded their first victory over Pakistan in Test cricket and took a 1-0 lead in the 2-match series. The shocking defeat on home soil sparked an outpouring of anger among the country’s former cricketers and Akmal too joined the bandwagon.

The former wicketkeeper-batter took to his YouTube channel and sharply criticized Shan Masood & Co. for their poor performance.

Aapne pichle 5 saalon se kuch nahi seekha (They have not learnt anything in the last 5 years),” said the retired wicketkeeper. He further claimed that this humiliating defeat was a stain on Pakistani cricket as it would never be forgotten.

“Our batters played like club cricketers. Sorry, even club cricketers don’t play like that. The approach was poor. The players were laughing in the dressing room. There was no seriousness because they are not questioned. It looked like they were playing for fun.”

Kamran Akmal also highlighted that Mohammad Rizwan’s innings was the only fighting spirit Pakistan showed in the opening Test. He claimed that if the experienced batsman had not played for the hosts, they would have lost the match by an innings.

“They lost to Zimbabwe. They were knocked out of the Asia Cup last year. They were humiliated in the T20 World Cup,” he said. The retired wicketkeeper added that the current team has made Pakistan cricket an absolute mockery around the world.

While Akmal was unhappy with Pakistan’s performance, he congratulated Bangladesh on a historic triumph.

“Bangladesh had a difficult time but their batters scored runs. They had to save the game and not only did they do that but they won. They also exposed Pakistan cricket.”

The Rawalpindi Test began with Bangladesh winning the toss and opting to field first. Pakistan scored 448 runs at a loss of six wickets in the first innings before giving up. A massive 191-run knock from Mushfiqur Rahim allowed Bangladesh to take the lead with a total of 565 runs. The visitors then stymied Pakistan at 146 before scoring an unbeaten 30 runs in the second innings to win the match.

Pakistan and Bangladesh will face each other again in the second match of their series on August 30. The venue is the same.
