John Alvin “Pete” Rouse, 88, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, surrounded by his wife at Silver Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Private interment with the family will be at Oak Shade Cemetery.

Pete was born on July 10, 1936 to Elmer and Anna J. (Parkhurst) Rouse. On December 29, 1956, Pete married Nelda Jean Mastain in Marion. He worked at the Colonial Bakery for 30 years and then at Coe College for 10 years until his retirement in 1998. Pete attended Faith Bible Church for over 40 years and was a reserve officer with the Marion Police Department. He loved the races and followed the Iowa football teams, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. Pete will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Pete leaves behind and will lovingly remember his wife of 67 years, Nelda J. Rouse of Marion; his sons, Scott (Melissa) Rouse of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Allen Rouse of Marion; his five grandchildren, Desiree Rouse and her children Alexis and Maci Vore, Kyle (Bailie) Rouse who is expecting their first child, Audrey (Jordan) Shepherd, Jake Rouse and Austin Rouse; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, his son Mark Rouse, his three brothers Bud, Mike and Duane Rouse, and his sister Lila Akers.

Memorial contributions in Pete’s name may be made to the family and distributed to various charities in his name.
