Singapore Air and Scoot resume flights over Iranian airspace, CNA reports

(Bloomberg) — Singapore Airlines Ltd. and its low-cost subsidiary Scoot have resumed flights over Iran after a two-month suspension due to the Middle Eastern state’s attacks on Israel.

Iranian airspace is frequently used by airlines flying between Europe and India or Southeast Asia. The attacks on Israel in April complicated flights in one of the world’s busiest regions and forced airlines to take long detours.

The Singapore Airlines group regularly reviews flight routes based on factors such as weather conditions, safety considerations, international and regional alerts, independent external safety consultations and regulatory restrictions, a spokesperson said in an email, confirming that flights through Iranian airspace have resumed since June 27.

Data from Flightradar24 shows that other airlines, including Lufthansa, Eva Airways Corp., Emirates, Turkish Airways, China Airlines and Vietnam Airlines, have also been flying over Iranian airspace since July 9. Data from Flightradar24 shows that KLM appears to have resumed flying over Iranian airspace on a limited basis for flights to Singapore.

Other airlines continue to avoid using Iranian airspace, including Qantas Airways Ltd., Thai Airways International Pcl, Malaysia Airlines, Air France, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd., according to Flightradar24.
