Here’s a rare look at Team Glazer’s integration into Tampa Bay’s roster.

So Buccaneers Ring of Honor General Manager Jason Licht reflected on last season earlier this month at the Tampa Bay Sports Day Podcast and explained that disbanding the squad after Tom Brady’s departure was under discussion.

Licht thought about going there for a long time, but said he couldn’t; the squad was too talented and it wasn’t the right fit for his coaches and management staff.

“Last year in the offseason, I had a lot of meetings with the owners. They’re great. The Glazer family is great. They give me everything I need. I think Bruce (Arians) and Todd (Bowles) would tell you the same thing,” Licht began.

“They said, ‘Listen, we’re going to make you work and we know you created this (salary cap) situation (during the Tom Brady years). So we don’t expect to get to the Super Bowl here. We know what’s coming.'”

Licht added that Team Glazer would have been fine with completely revamping the team before last season, but he couldn’t stand that approach.

“We knew we had some good players under contract,” Licht said. “We had some good young players and I just couldn’t imagine myself saying, ‘Hey, let’s just clean out the roster and start over.’ You know, I woke up every day thinking, ‘I’m not going to do this. I’m not just going to tear this down. … And I didn’t want to do that to our coach, the trainers and the staff.'”

He also stressed that the plan is to look for experienced players, including a quarterback, at the dollar store and select the perfect draft pick.

The result, as fans know, was the Bucs’ third consecutive division title following a Super Bowl victory, and Licht’s confidence and vision made that possible.
