Dangerous heat approaching

Heat Advisory issued for Monday (1:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.) for Dodge, Fond du Lac, Jefferson, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha counties.

Dangerous heat is expected in southeastern Wisconsin in the coming days. Heat and humidity are already increasing and will peak Monday and Tuesday afternoon.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory effective Monday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. for Fond du Lac, Washington, Dodge, Jefferson, Waukesha and Walworth counties.

Meanwhile, the warmth and humidity will begin early on Sunday. Overnight lows have only dropped to 15 to 20 degrees. Highs will be 27 to 30 degrees. Heat index values could rise to 35 to 40 degrees.

The heat will be at its worst on Monday and Tuesday, with highs of 95 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit – it will be even hotter further away from Lake Michigan.
Away from the lake, heat index values could reach 100-105°. Given the hot, humid, and unstable environment, there is a slight chance of storms in southeastern Wisconsin on both Monday and Tuesday. Storms will be limited by hot air aloft (a cap). If storms can break through this cap, they could quickly become severe, bringing downpours, damaging winds, and hail. There is a slight (Level 1) risk for severe weather from late Monday through early Tuesday.

A slight (level 2) threat of severe weather is in place for Tuesday. If a cold front approaches from the west, storms can develop near the front. If they fail to form (which is also possible), heat index readings could reach or exceed 105° in some locations Tuesday afternoon. The NWS has announced that heat advisories could be expanded to Milwaukee on Tuesday.

After the cold front has passed, temperatures will drop over the rest of the week. Another front line will bring showers/thunderstorms from Thursday evening to Friday.
